CHEDDAR CHEESE!!

Kategori: Cheddar, somerset

Now we are here in Cheddar the city of Cheddar cheese!

Cheddar is a pretty large village, which is located in Somerset.

And as you guess the Cheddar cheese got there name from the village Cheddar.

We are going to go to Cheddar Gorge, Barber’s while we are here. But today we did what everyone should do while they are here in Cheddar, we went to eat real Cheddar cheese and we also went to Cheddar Gorge.

Cheddar Gorge is a limestone gorge that is located in Mendip Hills, near the Cheddar Village in Somerset here in England.  The gorge began forming for about 1 million years ago, around the ice age. When the glaciers started to melt it formed a river and by over the time it started to carve into a limestone rock. That is how the beautiful Cheddar Gorge you see today was created.

Today Cheddar Gorge has become a tourist destination and I and Viktoria were there earlier this day to look at the wonderful view and learn a couple of new stuff about it. Apparently they have found a skeleton in the gorge from a man that they have name to The Cheddar Man that is UK’s oldest complete human skeleton. The skeleton is over 9000 years old, and that’s pretty amazing.

So we went up two times to discover the beautiful view by rock climbing, and  it was the first time I was rock climbing Cheddar Gorge from the bottom to the top. And yes it was hard but definitely worth it. We also went up by foot the second time. There were about 247 step stairways they are known as the Jacob’s ladder. I still can’t forget how magnificent the view was from the top.

After the amazing time we spent at Cheddar Gorge we went to Barber’s which produce a lot of cheese, but we went there to see how they produced cheddar cheese and tasted real English cheddar cheese. It was a long process make, the cheese took 8 hours to be finished!

The barber’s is a family company that have been farmers and produced cheese since 1833.

But now we are back in our hotel and it’s sad because our journey will end soon. And I haven’t had this much fun for a long time!

And tomorrow are we heading out to Manchester.

 Goodnight!
